Soy Sauce contains wheat. My daughter can’t eat wheat. My daughter also LOVES sushi. Hmmmm…

Coconut Aminos to the rescue! I can’t remember where I read about Coconut Aminos but it was at the beginning of our wheat free, grain free, Primal, Paleo journey. I’m sure I originally stumbled upon it on some blog. The funny thing is I haven’t seen the Coconut Aminos again on any of the Primal or Paleo blogs that I read and I read a lot of them. I have seen recipes that call for soy sauce which I also find interesting since soy sauce has wheat in it and if you are primal or paleo you generally avoid anything with wheat.

I’m reintroducing Coconut Aminos to the very small primal, paleo, wheat free, grain free, health conscious crowd that is reading my blog (thank you!). This stuff is great. It tastes just like soy sauce. It’s a perfect substitute. It’s also better than soy sauce. First, it’s not soy and second it is full of Amino Acids, Vitamins and Minerals – and, remember, it tastes great!

Here is a link to the Coconut Secret website. They sell more than just Coconut Aminos. I haven’t tried any of their other products yet but I’m sure I will. There is a store locator on their website. They also list websites that sell their products on-line. The store locator says that Whole Foods carries their stuff but I haven’t been able to find the Coconut Aminos there. I did find our bottle of Coconut Aminos at our local Gluten Free shop.

The Coconut Secret website lists all of the health benefits of Coconut Sap on their “Tapping The Sap” page. They show charts of the 11 Vitamins, 13 Minerals and 17 Amino Acids found in Coconut Sap. Pretty cool.

So, if you are trying to avoid wheat you might want to swap out your soy sauce for coconut aminos. If you aren’t sure why you might want to avoid wheat you should probably read the book Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD. It’s a great book. Even if you don’t have an “official” intolerance to wheat this book will explain why you should avoid it. It’s an easy read with tons of interesting information. The first few chapters are kind of slow, they cover the history of wheat. You can skip that stuff and move right onto the rest of the story – wheat and your body.
